smoke under porch light
05:18
|
|||
i sat beside my money
and whiled away the time.
there’s dark up that road
and smoke under porch light.
you have to wait your turn in line
come telling me what’s right.
you have to wait your turn in line
come telling me what’s right.
we sat upon those mountaintops
and whiled away the hours,
and when you got tired
you built a taller tower.
i have to muster all my power
to see the sights you’ve seen.
i have to muster all my power
to see the sights you’ve seen.
oo
you came to visit on a day
when i was still afraid
of wolves and tigers
and played me your charade.
you showed me all the kitchen knives
and promised i was safe.
you showed me all the kitchen knives
and promised i was safe.
we wrestled on the black top,
you said i was too shy.
but when i got older
you criticize my spine.
you can’t take back your truthful words
cuz now you are a liar.
you can’t take back your truthful words
cuz now you are a liar.
oo.
i’ll soon inherit everything
and give it to my son.
when it gets rusty
i’ll buy a bigger one.
there’s no use holding on, my son,
it passes from our sights.
there’s no use grasping in the dark,
it’s smoke under porch light.

where some go
03:13
|

although birthed unto this earth
desolation was facing me.
i had grander sights
than even i could see.
o, the child will move the mountains forth.
hesitate to be the ones we swore.
tried to regrow the forest
wrestled all of the soil that i fear,
in good faith,
criticize my critical ear.
hop a ship, escape the world by sea.
confuse seductive siren songs for pleas.
oo.
take me back to Appalachia,
tell the rain to go quiet the seas,
let my body make decisions
that undoubtedly don’t fit with me.
you know i won’t stop producing
until they put me in the ground,
and even afterwards
my cells will keep rolling around.
bird and beast befriend me on the shore,
they whisper softened secrets to their Lord.
child will shake a fist at civil doors,
wishin for a life that means something more.
oo.

idle worship
03:53
|
|||
wandering and lost in the dead of night,
i’m arming up with words looking just to fight
the traditional god of my ritual life.
nervous though I feel, i embrace the truth
of the evils i had wrought in my untamed youth.
all apologies for the legions of proof.
oh.
i’ve got to know where we’re going to go
to have something on this earth i am proud to show.
holding out my hands, waiting for the flight
of an angel here or there on the fortieth night
of my replica search for a warning sign.
stood up on that hill and outstretched my eyes
to horizons i forgot in the morning light,
even glimpses of the truth on the rising brights.
oh.
i’ve got to know where we’re going to go
to have something on this earth i am proud to show.
no i won’t sacrifice
visions of paradise
only to satisfy a willful vice.
give me a single word,
something i haven’t heard,
give me your most absurd and rest assured.
things just seem all too keen
in your imaginings.
here is an effigy we’ve yet to see.
i’ve got to know where we’re going to go
to have something on this earth i am proud to show.

me and mine
02:39
|
|||
someday i will swim again
don’t ask me when.
the sound will break and sift my bones,
and wash me.
you swam my side.
wait for me and mine.
tempting force of nature
past dark hour.
we took off clothes and went ashore
to explore.
take comfort in stealing eyes,
but don’t lose me and mine.
don’t lose me and mine.
safe in holding lips to mine
and lifting
the spirits on my lighter side
and listening.
mm.
not just me and mine.
not just me and mine.
not just me and mine.

growing home
04:18
|
|||
come along, my fellow disbelievers,
father child and try for happier days.
no prediction could amount to all
the troubles ahead.
makes no difference if you keep ambition
to yourself.
run along and start a pretty family,
savor every quaint and simple way.
give away all of my younger years
to their leather-bound fate.
someday i will thank myself
for putting those away.
come around my shanty cabin dreamin,
together we’ll rebuild houses our own way.
all the earth beneath our feet and walls
built from mighty wood red.
sunlight fades behind white peaks
atop my head.
maybe we are finding out what we committed to.
finally we move into the house we were born to.
you’ll find it waits for you
just as soon as you pull through.

Plenty Near Brooklyn, New York
hey there!
i am collecting this music under the project name "plenty near"
i like that it's
kind of a noun describing a sort of location.
but it's also an adjectival phrase used to bring far away things a bit closer and push too close things a bit farther away.
i am from seattle but live in new york city.
